Romeo Christmas Historic Home Tour

We were a part of the Romeo Historical Society Christmas Home Tour! Thank you to the Romeo Historical Society who hosts this yearly event! We enjoyed our guests and loved showing off our charming building and Helen's lovely artifacts.
Reflections of Autumn Juried Exhibition
September 27 through November 1
Reflections of Autumn Juried Exhibition will be curated by Barbara Miner. Barbara Miner currently holds the position of Associate Professor and Associate Chair in the Department of Art, at the University of Toledo, in Toledo, Ohio. Her mixed media and installation works have been exhibited nationally and internationally in over 50 exhibitions. She has participated in numerous national and international artist's residencies. Miner has also received internal and external grants in support of her research and art practice, as well as numerous Awards for Excellence/Merit.
The exhibit will open on September 27, 2013. The reception and awards presentation will take place on October 4, 2013.
Thumb Area Artists Exhibition
August 30 through September 20
The 2013 Thumb Area Artist’s Exhibition will be judged by David Korff. David Korff, our juror, is recently retired from St. Clair Community College where he was chairman of the Visual and Performing Arts Department. David’s area of specialization is design and painting. David is active as a board member of numerous art groups: most notably as chair of the Michigan Council for the Arts and Cultural Affairs/ Grant Review. David has been a juror at numerous shows in the past including the St. Clair Art Fair, the Lexington Art Fair and the TAAE.
The exhibit will open on August 30, 2013 with a reception and awards presentation to follow on Friday, September 6, from 6:00 to 8:00pm at Starkweather Arts Center.
Anita Bates: A Solo Exhibition

Artist Biography
Anita Bates (born, 1966) is an artist and educator living in the Detroit metropolitan area. Her paintings are primarily abstract ʻlandscapesʼ that focus heavily on the language of color, texture and space.
Anita has been exhibited in several venues including the G.R.NʼNamdi Gallery, Dell Pryor, Detroit Artists Market and The Riverʼs Edge Gallery inWyandotte, Michigan. Ms. Bates has also exhibited in New York at A Gathering of the Tribes Gallery. The artist and her work have been noted and reviewed in several periodicals and publications such as The Detroit News and Free Press, Trait Magazine and BLACMagazine.
Anita holds an M.F.A. and M.A. in painting from Wayne State University and Eastern Michigan University respectively. As well, she is a Fulbright Memorial Fellow in Japanese education. Currently she teaches art at Henry Ford Academy: School for Creative Studies and is an adjunct faculty member in the department of Art Education at the College for Creative Studies.
2013 Garden Walk Artists Exhibition
June 28 through August 3
An invitational exhibition for the artists creating plein air works of art during the Friends of the Romeo District Library Annual Garden Walk are showcased. Artwork will include a variety of mediums, styles and subject matter.
On July 13, the artists will be seen working in the selected gardens during the garden walk from 10am - 5pm. Their artwork from the special event will also be on display during the Moonflower Afterglow from 5 - 8pm.
